Across the globe, variations of the word umi describe life’s most beautiful phenomena: umi (海) is the word for “ocean” in Japanese. Umi translates to “life” in Mambwe. In Arabic, the term umm (أم) or ummi (أمي) means “mother,” “foundation,” and “source.”
